ruby-prof is a fast code profiler for Ruby. It is a C extension and therefore is many times faster than the standard Ruby profiler. It supports both flat and graph profiles. For each method, graph profiles show how long the method ran, which methods called it and which methods it called. RubyProf generate both text and html and can output it to standard out or to a file.

BinData is a declarative way to read and write binary file formats. This means the programmer specifies *what* the format of the binary data is, and BinData works out *how* to read and write data in this format. It is an easier ( and more readable ) alternative to ruby's #pack and #unpack methods.

Optimist is a commandline option parser for Ruby that just gets out of your way. One line of code per option is all you need to write. For that, you get a nice automatically-generated help page, robust option parsing, command subcompletion, and sensible defaults for everything you don't specify.

Ancestry allows the records of a ActiveRecord model to be organized in a tree structure, using the materialized path pattern. It exposes the standard relations (ancestors, parent, root, children, siblings, descendants) and allows them to be fetched in a single query. Additional features include named scopes, integrity checking, integrity restoration, arrangement of (sub)tree into hashes and different strategies for dealing with orphaned records.
