factory-helper

This gem began life as a fork of stympy's Faker. While the usage examples below use the FactoryHelper name, the Faker constant remains available. For example, Faker::Name.name.

FactoryHelper's purpose is to facilitate software testing by allowing factories to have a solid source of random data with defined characteristics, but the gem can be used for many other purposes as well as in production code.

Its main use-case is slightly different than Faker's and will evolve in that direction, with a primary focus on software testing and only a secondary focus on real-looking data. New features will also be added, some based on PRs submitted to the original repo, some based on things we've needed ourselves, and some based on incoming pull requests.

Build Status Coverage Status Gem Version

NOTE: While FactoryHelper generates data at random, returned values are not guaranteed to be unique. They can however be deterministic if you use the seeding feature.

Installing

gem install factory-helper

or in your Gemfile

gem 'factory-helper', '~> 1.7'

##Usage

FactoryHelper::Name.name      #=> "Christophe Bartell"

FactoryHelper::Internet.email #=> "kirsten.greenholt@corkeryfisher.info"

Customization

Since you may want to make addresses and other types of data look different depending on where in the world you are (US postal codes vs. UK postal codes, for example), FactoryHelper uses the I18n gem to store strings (like state names) and formats (US postal codes are NNNNN while UK postal codes are AAN NAA), allowing you to get different formats by switching locales. Just set FactoryHelper::Config.locale to the locale you want, and FactoryHelper will take care of the rest.

If your locale doesn't already exist, create it in the \lib\locales\ directory and you can then override or add elements to suit
