GitBot is a Ruby IRC bot that provides a builtin GitHub webhook server.
Installation
You can install GitBot from RubyGems by typing:
gem install gitbot
Note that GitBot uses the Cinch IRC framework, which requires Ruby 1.9.1 or newer.
Usage
-
First you must make a
config.yml
file so that GitBot knows where it should connect to. You can make a copy of theconfig.yml.example
file and use that as a basis. -
After that just run
gitbot
in the directory where the config file is located. This will start the bot and its built-in webhook server. Alternatively, you can specify a different location for the config file withgitbot [config_file]
. -
You can now add a webhook to a GitHub project. Use the following url:
http://yourserver.com:5651/github
. You can specify a different port in the config file if you want. -
Now do some commits and see the commit messages appearing on the IRC channel.
