Make your rails application down for maintenance. This gem provides three rake tasks for making application up, down and checking current status of application.

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'up_and_down', '~> 0.1.1'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install up_and_down

rails site:down or rake site:down

Now visit http://localhost:3000 after starting rails server. You should see

rails site:up or rake site:up

rails site:status or rake site:status
